Derek is currently a vice president in the financial institutions investment banking group at Goldman Sachs in New York. He earned a master’s degree in accounting from Wake Forest University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from UNCW. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs in 2015, he was a manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers focused on audit and transaction services. Derek founded UNCW ‘Open a Door’ scholarship foundation in 2018 and is a board member at UNCW’s Cameron School of Business. Derek is a proud 2003 alumni of San Marcos High School.
MEGAN FREEMAN

ALONE - a middle grade novel from Simon & Schuster
Megan E. Freeman attended an elementary school where poets visited her classroom every week to teach poetry and she has been a writer ever since. She writes middle grade and young adult fiction, and her debut middle grade novel-in-verse ALONE is available from Simon & Schuster/Aladdin. Megan is also a Pushcart Prize-nominated poet, and her poetry collection, Lessons on Sleeping Alone, was published by Liquid Light Press. An award-winning teacher with decades of classroom experience, Megan is nationally recognized for her work leading workshops and speaking to audiences across the country. Megan used to live in northeast Los Angeles, central Ohio, northern Norway, and on Caribbean cruise ships. Now she lives in northern Colorado.


BIANCA SALGADO

Bianca Salgado is a proud Mexican-American female scientist. She graduated from Cal State San Marcos in 2019 with a Bachelor's Degree in General Biology with an emphasis in Ecology. During her last year in undergraduate school, she was accepted into the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) internship where she worked full time in an Epigenetics lab at UCSD. Working with stem cells, the research focused on Diabetes. She is currently working at Thermo Fisher in Carlsbad on the cell biology custom services team, where she engineers all types of cell lines.
